Welcome to Running to Excellence
Preparing for a running race is not simply a matter of accumulating kilometers.
At Sports Excellence *, we believe that effective training is grounded in scientific evidence and fundamental training principles, such as progressive overload, periodization, and—most importantly—the individualization of training according to each runner’s level and development.
With the aim of supporting runners in their preparation, the scientific team of Sports Excellence is launching the new article series “Running to Excellence”, a dedicated section focused on running and performance improvement.
Within this initiative, articles will be published every 15 days, providing scientifically supported insights, practical training guidelines, and useful tips to help runners enhance their performance and approach their training more effectively, safely, and enjoyably.
The first thematic section of the series is a 12-week training journey designed for our 6 km and 10 km races of the SNF Nostos Run, which will take place on the evening of June 23. The articles will follow the natural progression of endurance training: from building an aerobic base and strength development, to speed enhancement, endurance optimization, and finally tapering leading to race day.
Our goal is to provide runners with a reliable and practical training guide, rooted in exercise science and directly applicable to their daily training routine.
