1 KM
The SNF RUN – 1K Race for Special Olympics is a unique and symbolic event that takes place as part of the annual SNF Nostos Run, organized by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). This charitable race spans a distance of 1 kilometer and is specially designed to give athletes with intellectual disabilities, who are members of Special Olympics Hellas, the opportunity to actively participate in a major athletic and social celebration.
This race is not solely about athletic performance; rather, it emphasizes the values of inclusion, social equality, and acceptance of diversity. Through this 1K run, Special Olympics athletes are given a platform to showcase their abilities, experience the joy of participation, and feel part of a wider community that supports and recognizes them.
At the same time, the involvement of the public – whether as spectators or fellow runners – helps to amplify the message of empathy and togetherness, demonstrating in practice that sport can serve as a bridge for communication and understanding among all people, regardless of their abilities.
The 1K Race for Special Olympics is more than just an athletic event – it is a powerful reminder of sport’s potential to unite and create a fairer, more inclusive, and more compassionate world for everyone.
